Download the extension files
Download Extension (.zip)
Unzip the file to a permanent folder on your computer (e.g. Documents/family-vault-extension). Don't delete this folder — Chrome needs it to run the extension.
Open chrome://extensions in Chrome
Type this URL directly into your Chrome address bar and press Enter. This opens the extensions management page.
Enable "Developer mode"
Toggle the "Developer mode" switch in the top-right corner of the extensions page. This allows you to install extensions from local files.
Click "Load unpacked"
Select the folder where you saved the extension files. Chrome will install it automatically. You should see "Family Vault" appear in your extensions list.
Pin the Family Vault icon
Click the puzzle piece icon in your Chrome toolbar, then click the pin icon next to Family Vault so it's always visible in your toolbar.
Sign in with your Family Vault account
Click the Family Vault icon in your toolbar and sign in with the same email and password you use on the website. Your vaults and credentials will sync automatically.
What you get
Autofill logins
Automatically fill usernames and passwords on login pages with one click.
Save new passwords
When you create a new account or change a password, the extension offers to save it to your vault.
Stay in sync
Everything stays in sync with your Family Vault account. Add a password on the web, use it in the extension.
Troubleshooting
Extension not appearing?
Make sure Developer mode is enabled and you selected the correct folder (it should contain a manifest.json file).
Autofill not working on a site?
Some sites use non-standard login forms. Try clicking the extension icon and using the popup to copy your credentials manually.
Need to update the extension?
Download the latest zip from this page, replace the old folder with the new files, then go to chrome://extensions and click the refresh icon on Family Vault.
